Former Democratic Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer is planning to launch a campaign to win the US Senate seat held by Senator Chuck Grassley, Iowa Field Report has learned.

“Iowans know Finkenauer and her disastrous record, it’s why they rejected her last November. No matter how she tries to reinvent herself, Iowans will see that her values and priorities are just the same as AOC’s and Chuck Schuymer’s,” said Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann in a statement after word broke of Finkenauer’s plans.

Finkenauer has only served one term in Congress in IA-01 and lost her northeast Iowa seat to current Republican Ashely Hinson. Finkenauer was a “part of a string of disappointing losses for House Democrats who predicted they would gain seats that year,” in Iowa according to a Politico article that ran today.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee was quick to call out Finkenaure for her support of radical policies and D.C. ties.

“Abby Finkenauer supports sanctuary cities and Medicare for All, which would bankrupt our country and destroy the Medicare system. That’s why Iowans soundly rejected her barely six months ago. So we have to wonder why she would want to come back for more – especially against Iowa’s toughest fighter in the Senate, Chuck Grassley. Iowans believe in small government, low taxes, and upholding values that create opportunities across the state. But those aren’t the same values espoused by Abby Finkenauer and her D.C. allies like Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and Bernie Sanders,” said NRSC spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey.

Shortly after her loss last year it was widely reported that the former congresswoman was under consideration for a position in the Biden Administration, however, she was ultimately passed over. Her campaign team has given no indication when a formal campaign launch would take place.
