Forget Tinder—the DCCC is running its own high-stakes matchmaking service, and for billionaire “defund” activists, Iowa’s liberal candidates are a “perfect match.” In this radical version of Hinge, big-money donors with anti-police agendas are swiping right on a slate of Iowa Democrats whose records prove they share a common goal: dismantling the systems that keep our communities safe.
The DCCC isn’t just a fundraising arm anymore; it’s an algorithm designed to pair billionaire “abolitionists” with candidates who have a documented history of anti-police activism. This isn’t a case of donors pushing an agenda onto passive candidates—it’s a deliberate alignment of shared, radical views.
The Donor
The gold standard for this matchmaking is Liz Simons, a billionaire who recently funneled $250,000 into the campaign of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani, a self-described socialist, has labeled the NYPD “racist” and a “threat to public safety” while calling for the department to be defunded.
We don’t need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety.
What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD.
But your deal with @NYCMayor uses budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible on the beat.
NO to fake cuts – defund the police. https://t.co/2RCXU8heg2

While Mamdani’s policies are already crumbling under the weight of rising urban crime, Simons’ passion for his socialist vision remains a major draw for the DCCC. Her foundation is explicitly dedicated to “dismantling systems of punishment” and “divesting from policing”—making her the perfect ideological match for the DCCC’s hand-picked slate of Iowa candidates.
Finding the Perfect Match in Iowa
The DCCC’s strategy involves identifying candidates whose local records prove they are already on board with the “dismantle” agenda, then linking them with the billionaire class that can bankroll the movement. In Iowa, they found their perfect matches:
- Christina Bohannan (IA-01): The DCCC didn’t have to convince Bohannan of the “abolitionist” cause. As Chair of the University of Iowa College of Law’s DEI Committee, she used her platform to solicit donations for the National Bail Out Fund and the Minnesota Freedom Fund. These groups have referred to police as the “country’s largest, state-sanctioned gang.” The DCCC knows that a donor like Simons doesn’t need to push Bohannan—she’s already leading the charge.
- Sarah Trone Garriott: The DCCC found another ideological partner in Trone Garriott, who used her vote in the legislature to oppose common-sense protections for law enforcement. Specifically, she voted against preventing state funds from going to local governments that choose to defund their police departments.
- Lindsay James: Rounding out the DCCC’s “talent” list, James has a record of legislative avoidance on public safety, notably skipping or voting “no” on critical provisions for qualified immunity and increased penalties for violent protest-related crimes.
A Shared Vision for “Pro-Crime” Policy
The DCCC’s matchmaking is a deliberate move to bring a toxic, anti-police agenda to the Heartland. By pairing billionaire “abolitionists” with candidates who have a documented history of radical activism, the DCCC is prioritizing extreme ideology over the safety of Iowa families. They are betting that a mountain of billionaire cash can hide a slate of candidates committed to the same pro-crime experiments currently failing in cities like New York.
“While families are worried about safety, Christina Bohannan, Sarah Trone Garriott, and Lindsay James are taking money from a billionaire bankrolling the movement to dismantle policing in America. That tells you everything you need to know about where their priorities lie,” NRCC Spokeswoman Emily Tuttle.
