On her official campaign website, Christina Bohannan talks a big game about money in politics, explicitly claiming that “billionaires and corporate special interests buy votes in Congress.” But a look behind the scenes reveals a massive double standard: Bohannan has absolutely no problem accepting the exact same billionaire wealth and elite contributions she publicly criticizes.
Despite her populist rhetoric, Bohannan’s campaign has already pocketed more than $112,000 from billionaire mega-donors and elite liberal families bankrolling Democrats across the country. Her donor list reads like a roll call of the coastal elite, featuring financial backing tied to George Soros and his family, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and prominent California mega-donors Liz Simons and Quinn Delaney.
It should be no surprise that Bohannan is so comfortable cashing checks from the wealthy elite, considering her own status as a millionaire academic. While the median household income in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District sits at a modest $72,200, financial disclosures indicate that Bohannan and her husband likely share a net worth of over $3.1 million.
That immense wealth is reflected in a lifestyle far removed from the everyday realities of working Iowans. In 2025, Bohannan purchased a swanky $1.55 million mansion from Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery. On top of that, she owns a lucrative waterfront Florida condo in a gated community that yields up to $50,000 a year in rental income alone, alongside holding up to $280,000 in individual Big Tech stock stakes.
This same double standard shows up in her stance on education. She has consistently fought against school choice options for everyday Iowan families, yet had no problem cutting massive tuition checks to send her own kid to an exclusive private school. That massive gap between what she preaches on the campaign trail and how she actually lives her life is drawing heavy fire as the general election gets underway.
“Liberal Christina Bohannan is a millionaire elitist lying to Iowans,” said NRCC Spokeswoman Emily Tuttle. “She rails against billionaires in public while cashing their checks behind closed doors. From George Soros to JB Pritzker, Bohannan’s campaign is funded by the same wealthy liberal elites she claims to oppose, and Iowans know exactly who she’ll fight for in Congress.”
The truth is pretty simple: Christina Bohannan doesn’t actually want to keep billionaires out of politics—she just wants to be the one cashing their checks.
