Today, Former GOP Congressman, David Young’s campaign announced that they had raised over $400,000 in the first quarter of 2020. He also announced that his cash-on-hand war chest has ballooned to over $1,000,000.

In the press release, the campaign provided this prepared statement,

Though the nature of campaigning has changed in the past several weeks, there is still an election to win and we will have the financial resources to do just that,” said Young. “I want to thank each and every one of my donors who contributed to our fight to win back the Third Congressional District and return leadership to Congress.

Young was elected to represent Iowa’s 3rd congressional district in 2014 and reelected in 2016. In 2018, he lost narrowly to Democrat Cindy Axne. Before his service in Congress, Young served as Senator Chuck Grassley’s Chief of Staff in D.C.

Congresswoman Axne has yet to release her first-quarter fundraising numbers; however, at the end of 2019, she had $1.7 million COH. Both the Cook Political Report and Inside Elections by Nathan Gonzales rate the race as a toss-up.
